Navigating through Racial Trauma to Racial Healing
A safe space for staff members who identify as Black to develop coping mechanisms and practical strategies to begin and maintain their racial healing journey.
Aims:
To respond to the needs of staff members who have experienced historical and/or current racial trauma
To provide a racially informed and culturally competent safe space that allows for learning, understanding and growth
To support staff members to develop coping mechanisms and practical strategies to begin and maintain their healing journey for racial trauma
Main themes covered in the session:
Signs and symptoms of racial trauma (identify racial trauma responses)
How to heal from racial trauma?
What does racial healing consist of?
Post-traumatic growth and post-traumatic resilience
Next steps for navigating your racial healing journey
Session attendees will:
Understand the biopsychosocial effects of racial trauma
Learn practical tools to deal with daily microaggressions and past experiences of racism
Develop strategies and create a well-being plan to facilitate your racial healing journey
This is a 2 hour interactive session led by:

Vanessa Boachie - Psychological Therapist
Dr Yvette Arthur - Clinical Psychologist
Grace Oladunjoye - Emotional Wellbeing Therapist
The session will also include group activities, individual reflection activities and guided meditation. We encourage attendees to bring a notepad and pen for the activities.
